THE CLIFFS AT HERB LAKE LANDING

The orange cliffs which tower over our community are a unique natural feature of our landscape. There is a climbing trail which affords a unique vantage to look over Wekusko Lake.

The orange limestone cliffs were once the lake bottom of Lake Agassiz, a large body of water that covered most of Manitoba in prehistoric times. The cliffs break near the shoreline of Wekusko Lake, which suggests that our community was once the shoreline of Lake Agassiz. Today the large limestone blocks that make up the cliffs are imposing. The orange color is a lichen that grows on the rocks.

There is danger on the cliffs and climbers should use caution.
